Match 22 Hole-by-Hole Bjorn bt Cink 2&1

Hole 17 - Both drive into the rough and Cink hits the fairway with his second. Bjorn makes a misjudgement and finds a bunker. Cink hits his third through the green. Bjorn splashes out of the sand to 45 feet but his putt edges past the cup. Cink plays poor chip 13-feet short and his putt stays out for a bogey-six. Bjorn then holes for par to win the match by 2&1.

Hole 16 - Bjorn fires his approach into the trees right, pitches down the bank and is left with a 25-foot par putt. Cink hits the green in two and secures his par from around 25 feet, while Bjorn's par attempt for a half runs just past the hole. Europe one-up.

Hole 15 - Cink plays a poor chip-and-run and fails to secure his par five, while Bjorn hits it close and holes for a par five. Europe two-up

Hole 14 - Cink holes for a birdie-two. Europe one-up..

Hole 13 - Hole halved in par fours. Europe two-up.

Hole 12 - Hole halved in par threes. Europe two-up.

Hole 11 - Hole halved in par fours. Europe two-up

Hole 10 - Hole halved in par fours. Europe two-up.

Hole 9 - Hole halved in par four, Bjorn out in 36 to Cink's 38. Europe two-up.

Hole 8 - Cink bogeys but Bjorn secures his par to increase his lead. Europe two-up.

Hole 7 - Hole halved in par threes. Europe one-up.

Hole 6 - Hole halved in par fours. Europe one up.

Hole 5 - Bjorn gets his game going with a birdie-three to go ahead for the first time. Europe one up.

Hole 4 - Play not sparkling and the hole is concluded in a half in bogey fives. Match all square.

Hole 3 - Both players secure pars at the par five. Match all square.

Hole 2 - Hole halved in par fours to leave the match all square.

Hole 1 - Bjorn holes a testing putt for a par to match that of Cink's after the American was wayward off the tee. Match all square.

did you know?
1961 saw all matches reduced from 36 holes to 18 which has remained the position since. In 1963 fourball matches were introduced and the overall match extended to three days from the previous two.
