Match 27 Hole-by-Hole Price bt Mickleson 3&2

Hole 16 - Price sends the fans into a complete frenzy when he holes from 22 feet about the hole for an incredible birdie. It is enough for the Welshman to secure a 3 & 2 win over the world's Number One and take his side to within one point of winning the match outright.

Hole 15 - Price comes within a fraction of an inch of holing a 15 foot putt. It misses and he then has to stand and watch as Mickelson holes for a birdie from eight feet. Price is now two up with three to play.

Hole 14 - The Welshman is three up with four to play when he matches Mickelson's par three.

Hole 13 - Price holes another great putt for birdie. He knocks it in from seven feet but Mickelson fllows him in from three. The Welshman is three under par and three up with five holes to go.

Hole 12 - Price makes a great up and down from the bank at the back of the green. He pitches up to 12 feet and then holes the putt for an impressive three. He remains three up.

Hole 11 - Price remains three up as both players halve the hole in par fours.

Hole 10 - A huge hole for Price. The Welshman hits his second into 18 inches and then watches as Mickelson fire his approach straight through bthe green. Price wins with a birdie three to go back to three up.

Hole 9 - Mickelson pegs one hole back when he holes out for a birdie three. Price goes into the back nine two ahead.

Hole 8 - The hole is halved in par four.

Hole 7 - Price might have been the underdog when he started out but he wins his third consecutive hole when his opponent drops another shot. The Welshman is now three up.

Hole 6 - Price goes two up in extraordinary circumstances. Both men hit their second shots in close but the Welshman secures his birdie from three feet while Mickelson misses from a few inches closer.

Hole 5 - The Welshman edges ahead with a par when Mickelson drops his first shot of the day.

Hole 4 - Price and Mickelson halve their fourth successive hole with par fours.

Hole 3 - Price is certainly not overawed by his more experienced opponent. The Welshman records his first birdie of the day to remain all square with Mickelson.

Hole 2 - It is still all square as both men record par fours on the second.

Hole 1 - Price starts his first Ryder Cup singles with a safe par in four against the world's best left-hander.

did you know?
1961 saw all matches reduced from 36 holes to 18 which has remained the position since. In 1963 fourball matches were introduced and the overall match extended to three days from the previous two.
