Both Teams Fit and Ready
Sam Torrance and Curtis Strange have declared themselves happy with their final preparations for the start of The 34th Ryder Cup Matches and their sides are itching to get the action underway.
Torrance speaks of high spirits
Sam Torrance got one of the shocks of his life while he was lying in the bath prior to the players' welcome dinner at The De Vere Belfry. The European Captain was relaxing at the end of a hectic first practice session when he was alarmed to get a frantic phone call from Ryder Cup rookie, Pierre Fulke.
The De Vere Belfry - Host To The 34th Ryder Cup Matches
The De Vere Belfry will be celebrating 24 years of playing host to world-class golfers when The 34th Ryder Cup Matches unfold on The Brabazon Course. The first official tournament to be held on The Brabazon Course was the Hennessy Cognac Cup, a match between Great Britain and Ireland and the Continent of Europe. This was played on September 21-23, 1978. If any one player put the course on the map then it was Severiano Ballesteros, who performed a feat that the designers had deemed impossible.
Rising to the Challenge
If holing the final putt which secures your maiden victory is recognised as the most nerve-wracking experience in the life of a professional golfer, lining up for your opening drive in The Ryder Cup must run it a close second.
Langer Relives "That Putt"
It has been called the 'biggest pressure putt in the history of the Ryder Cup'. The outcome of the 1991 Match at Kiawah Island depended on one six footer on the 18th green.
