Monty Celebrates His Win

Colin Montgomerie beat Scott Hoch 5 & 4 to remain unbeaten in six singles games P6 W4 H2. His tally of 4½ points out of five equals the best by a European player. He joins José Maria Olazabál in 1989 and Seve Ballesteros in 1991. Monty has taken 1½ out of 2 against Scott Hoch in Ryder Cup Singles.

Padraig Harrington remains undefeated in Ryder Cup Singles after also beating Mark O'Meara in 1999 by 1 hole.

Bernhard Langer repeated his 1985 Singles success over Hal Sutton. This time 4&3. In 1985 it was 5&4. By beating Sutton, Langer takes his all-time Ryder Cup points total to 24, just one behind Nick Faldo.

David Toms capped his rookie Ryder Cup appearance by beating Sergio Garcia by 1 hole. Thus taking his total to 3½ out of 5, the best American rookie performance since Chip Beck in 1989 who also took 3½ points.

Darren Clarke finnished the week with two points from his five matches and gains his first points in his third singles game.

Thomas Björn beat Stewart Cink to finish with 2½ points and remain undefeated in Ryder Cup Singles.

Scott Verplank had a successful debut taking two points out of three. Lee Westwood has now lost all three singles matches in the Ryder Cup.

Paul Azinger's earned his second half in a singles match, the first was against Nick Faldo in 1993 also the De Vere Belfry.

Niclas Fasth won a half point from his three matches, and all his games went to the 18th.

Paul McGinley joins fellow Irishman Philip Walton in 1995 to gain the winning point in The Ryder Cup Matches.

Jim Furyk still remains unbeaten from his three singles games with 2½ points from 3.

Davis Love's half with Pierre Fulke was the American's first singles half in five matches.

Phillip Price scored his first point and inflicted Phil Mickelson's first singles defeat. Before today he had won all previous three.

With Tiger Woods and Jesper Parnevik it meant all 24 players scored points.



did you know?
1961 saw all matches reduced from 36 holes to 18 which has remained the position since. In 1963 fourball matches were introduced and the overall match extended to three days from the previous two.
