The IBM Real-Time Scoreboard is a stand-alone pop-up window that "pushes" scores to golf fans in real time. It also provides golf fans with view options plus links to other key sections of the site. When launched, it spawns a small, separate browser window that sits on your desktop updating you with the latest scores, statistics, news stories, and photos. How to use the IBM Real-Time Scoreboard
1	Press left and right arrows (or your keyboard arrow keys) beside the match number to view other matches.
2	Select from the four tabs for links to related information. Players: A brief bio and relevant statistics. Hole Information: A graphical overview of the hole currently being played by player(s). News: Access the latest news stories and player interviews. Round Overview: Displays pertinent match statistics.
3	To listen to to live play-by-play Ryder Cup Radio coverage, click the Ryder Cup Radio button at the top middle area of the Scoreboard. Click the button again to turn off the feature.
4	The IBM Real-time leaderboard is optimized for IE and Netscape 4.x and above. Some Internet Explorer v6 (IE6) users may encounter problems when attempting to load the IBM Real-Time Scoreboard. Some distributions of IE6 do not include support for Java, which the IBM Real-Time Scoreboard requires to function properly. IE6 users may update their browsers to support the IBM Real-Time Scoreboard at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/. Please choose the Scan for updates option. Java support is also available at http://java.sun.com/.
5	The BBC Radio 5 Live program will be available during the Ryder Cup Matches. Download a free version of the RealMedia Player here.

1961 saw all matches reduced from 36 holes to 18 which has remained the position since. In 1963 fourball matches were introduced and the overall match extended to three days from the previous two.
