At Ryder Cup level this hole has to be attacked with the aim of getting on the green in two with a driver and three wood. The drive from a raised back tee is straightforward enough, though there is sand waiting for the leaked shot to the right. There is nothing simple about the second shot, however, especially in a west wind. Thomas has enlarged the fairway bunker just short of the triple tiered green and made the face of it more penal. Two of the greenside bunkers have also been strengthened.
