After his family moved from Laurel, Nebraska, to Palm Beach, Florida, the teenage Calcavecchia was able to play golf every day, playing as many as 72 holes a day during the summer months ... He turned professional in 1981 and qualified for the PGA Tour, but his first four years were a struggle, and he was forced to go back to Q-School after every year ... When he failed to qualify for the 1986 season, Calcavecchia caddied for his friend Ken Green in a handful of tournaments and practiced more than ever ... He four-spotted at Doral that year, led the first round with a 65 and ended up tied for 8th ... By the end of the summer he had a conditional card and ended the season 58th on the money list ... The highlight of his career came in 1989 when he won the British Open, beating Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in a four hole playoff ... Daughter Britney was born three weeks after that victory at Troon ... Member of 1987, 1989 and 1991 Ryder Cup Teams ... Finished 2nd in All-Around stats category in 1996 and 5th in 1997 ... Has finished in the top-50 of the money list every year since 1987 ... Recorded career-best in season earnings in 2000 with $1,597,317 to finish 23rd on the PGA Tour money list and qualify for his 11th Tour Championship.
