Qualification

The qualification process for the 2001 European Ryder Cup Team commenced at the Canon European Masters, September 7-10, 2000, and concluded following the BMW International Open on September 2, 2001.

All European Tour ranking events (tournaments contributing to the Volvo Order of Merit), including the four major championships in 2001, the 2000 WGC-American Express Championship, the 2001 WGC-Andersen Consulting Match Play and the 2001 WGC-NEC Invitational, up to and including the 2001 BMW International Open were included in the qualifying process.

All players eligible for the European Ryder Cup Team received one point for each euro won during this period in Ryder Cup ranking events.
